A tow truck is not required but a trailer hitch is.

The Toyota Highlander is an SUV manufactured by the Japanese automaker. Towing a vehicle is not like driving a normal car; it takes longer to stop and go. In addition, turning is much more difficult. If the Highlander is broken down by the side of a busy highway, see if the vehicle can be pushed to a safer location before beginning the tow procedure. In some areas it may also be illegal to tow a vehicle without a license or the proper towing vehicle, so always check with local regulations first.
