Seat belts are one of the most important safety features on your Toyota car or light truck. If the belt material is frayed, cut or torn, or the retention brackets are broken in any way, the belts should be replaced immediately. Seat belt bolts are manufactured to high-quality standards---never substitute lower-quality fasteners. Always use high-quality parts from a reputable source such as a Toyota dealer. You life may depend on it.

  • Flat-blade screwdriver

    • 1

      Note the procedures for gaining access to the seat belt bolts on your Toyota will vary by model and year. On older vehicles and trucks, the bolts might be exposed. Newer vehicles usually have plastic covers that can be pried off with a flat-blade screwdriver. To remove the seat belts in the rear of the vehicle, you might have to remove the rear seat.

      Remove the bolt that connect the shoulder harness to the B-pillar behind the side window.

      Remove the bold that secures the seat belt retractor to the floor.

      Remove the bolt that secures the anchor plate to the floor.

      Remove the bolt that secures the seat belt buckle to the transmission tunnel.

      Remove the seat belt from the vehicle.

    Installation

    • 1

      Place the seat belt buckle into position and loosely reinstall the bolt that secures it to the transmission tunnel.

      Place the anchor plate into position and loosely reinstall the bolt that secures it to the floor.

      Place the seat belt retractor into position and loosely reinstall the bolt that secures it to the floor.

      Place the shoulder harness into position against the B-pillar behind the side window and loosely reinstall the bolt that secures it.

      Check to see that the belt is not twisted and that it functions properly. Adjust if necessary.

      Tighten all fasteners to specifications listed in the vehicles service manual.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a thread locking compound on the threads of the fasteners to ensure they remain tight.
