2007 Toyota Camry: How to Change the Gas Filter

The gas filter, most commonly refereed to as a fuel filter, protects the engine and fuel injectors from damage. The contaminants in the fuel, if not filtered out, can reach the engine and fuel injectors and cause damage and even failure. Making this change on your 2007 Toyota Camry every 30,000 miles will ensure the gas filter is clean and functioning properly. And by performing this change yourself, you can save time and money versus having a professional complete the task.

• New fuel filter
• Crescent wrench
• Two car ramps
• Two tire stops
• Towel

     Start the car and drive the front tires onto the car ramps. Place the tire stops behind the rear tires to secure the wheels in place. Turn off the car and raise the hood. Locate the fuse panel and remove the fuel pump fuse.

     Start the car again and allow it to idle until the motor stalls out. This will remove any excess fuel from the fuel system. Locate the gas filter on the bottom area of the motor, beside the oil pan. Use the crescent wrench to remove the bolt that holds the gas filter in place.

     Remove both fuel lines entering the gas filter. Remove the old gas filter and replace it with the new one. Position the new filter so the arrows on the gas filter are pointing toward the front of the vehicle.

     Reattach the mounting bolt and fuel lines using your crescent wrench. Reinstall the fuel pump fuse into the fuse panel under the hood. Remove the tire stops from behind the rear tires.

     Start the vehicle and allow it to idle for 30 seconds, then drive the car off the car ramps.
