How to Align the Headlights in a Toyota Prius

How to Align the Headlights in a Toyota Prius

Aligning the headlights of a Toyota Prius can be done using the vertical adjustment screw on the top of the headlights. The vertical adjustment screw will move the headlights up or down, depending on how the screw is turned. Generally, headlight adjustment is necessary only when headlights are replaced. If you've never done this job before, aligning a Prius' headlights should take about 20 minutes.

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Cross-point screwdriver
    • 1

Park the Prius 20 feet from a wall that touches the ground.

    • 2

Shine the headlights on the wall.

    • 3

Open the hood and turn the adjustment screw on the top of the headlight housing assembly counterclockwise to lower the headlight beam and clockwise to raise the beam. Adjust the beam so the headlight beam sits at the bottom of the wall where the wall meets the ground. From 20 feet away, this should give you the proper adjustment for your headlights.
