How to Replace a Horn in a Toyota Tundra

How to Replace a Horn in a Toyota Tundra

The Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck in production since 2000. It was upgraded in 2007 and is available in a variety of styles, including a regular cab, double cab and CrewMax four-wheel drive. Toyota Tundra owners frequently replace the original equipment manufacturer's horn with a much louder aftermarket horn. This is a fairly straightforward task; you'll need only a few tools.

Moderate

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • New horn kit
  • Socket wrench set
  • Wire crimper/stripper
    • 1

Buy a horn kit. Ensure you have one low tone and one high tone horn if your kit is not a direct factory replacement. Also, make sure your new horn has the same tone as the old one if you are only replacing one horn.

    • 2

Locate the horns. Toyota Tundra models have high and low tone horns that are both located behind the front grill and in front of the radiator.

    • 3

Unplug the power connectors and remove both of the mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Take out the original horns and mount the new horns with a socket wrench using the bolts and washers in the kit and the original mounting holes, if possible.

Plug in the old power connectors to each new horn if you are installing factory replacements. If the original harnesses are not compatible with the new horns, you will need to use your wire crimper/stripper to connect the original wiring to the new harnesses. You will then be able to plug the new harnesses into the horns.

Test the new horns. They should make a highly discordant sound if they are both working. You can test each horn separately by plugging one in at a time.
